As the world rejoiced at the exciting arrival of our adorable future king, Prince George, another William and Kate from the South Island had their own reason to be overjoyed.

Dairy farmers William Christie (24) and Kate Campbell (20), nicknamed “the royal family of Temuka” because of their regal names, welcomed their little boy Marley George the same day as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had their George.

When they appeared in the Weekly’s special royal baby souvenir issue, which celebrated the birth of the heir to the throne, the couple felt just like royalty themselves, appearing in a magazine that they consider a go-to for stories on the monarchy.

“It was a privilege to appear in the Weekly at the same time as Prince George and his loving parents. We felt very special,” says Kate.

Eight months on, little Marley is a wee bundle of joy, and Wills and Kate adore being first-time parents.

“It’s been an awesome experience,” says Kate.

“I love being a mum, just like the duchess. But I’m sure we are completely different mothers. I don’t exactly have all the nannies to help me out,” she adds with a sigh.

The young family say they were too busy on the farm to be part of the Christchurch crowd that welcomed the royals to the garden city, but that they followed Kate and William’s Kiwi visit with interest.

“We do have a connection, and I hope that one day we can meet them,” says Kate.

Meanwhile, William recently proposed to Kate, and they are looking forward to walking down the aisle – with Marley right by their side.

“He’s a very active baby who loves playing with his toys and rolling around,” the proud mum tells. “We like to think he’s our very own prince.”
